Detailed Intelligence

Veriato Log management software helps your IT resources review only relevant data. For example, Logon Reports within Veriato Log Manager automatically exclude Logon Type 3 and SYSTEM logon/logoff events. This helps eliminate unnecessary reporting of network logons to shared folders and printers.

Frequently Asked Questions

I bought a Log Manager license for X nodes. How many separate installations of the software can I have?

You may install Log Manager as many times as you’d like as long as the total number of nodes managed across all of the installations does not exceed the number you are licensed for.

If I install the Log Manager console on my computer, does that use one of my licenses?

Licenses are only used for computers, devices, or hosts that have a Monitor assigned to them. If you are monitoring something on your computer it will use a license. You may install as many management consoles as you’d like.

I assigned a monitor to a device I no longer wish to monitor. What should I do?

Simply un-assign all Monitors from it and that license will free up automatically and you can use it to monitor another device.

Can I store my log data in Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition?

You may use SQL Server Express Edition, but it not recommended. The reason is because SQL Server Express Edition has a limit on the maximum size that a database can be. Once this limit is reached, no additional data will be able to be committed to the database, resulting in errors and a potential for loss of data.

Can I run Server Manager on a computer that is not connected to the Internet?

Yes. Under normal circumstances, an Internet connection is only required for licensing and to check for updates. However, if no Internet connection is available on the computer where the software is installed, you may visit https://www.veriato.com/support/registernodessm.asp from another computer to create a license file for your installation or contact Technical Support and they can assist you in creating a license file.

System Requirements

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows Server 2012, and 2008
  • Windows 8, Windows 7, and Vista
  • Unix/Linux Flavors (supports remote management only: receives syslog messages and monitors log files and disk space via Samba)

Supported CPUs

  • Runs natively on both 64-Bit and 32-Bit computers. We offer both a 64-Bit and a 32-Bit installation of Server Manager.

Memory

  • 2-8 GBs of available memory. 4 GBs minimum when monitoring Windows Security Event Logs on large networks or heavily loaded servers.

.NET Framework 4.0

  • The installation detects if .NET Framework 4.0 is already installed. If not, the framework is automatically downloaded from Microsoft and then installed. Please note the framework may take a significant amount of time to install. Please be patient while the installation completes.

Domain Administrator Account

  • To access remote resources both the logged in user and the Windows Service must have domain administrator rights. The first time the application is run, you will be prompted to assign domain administrator credentials to the service.

Windows Management Instrumentation (client and server)

  • Functions such as Event Log consolidation/archiving, CPU, memory, Windows Service and process monitoring use Microsoft's Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) API. WMI is preinstalled on all supported operating systems.
